About Us

Daylilies of Kenefick began as two small flower beds with a few daylilies to brighten up the landscape. We purchased a one and half acre lot in a wooded area, cleared as necessary, and built our house. The flower beds came soon after. Adjacent properties came available, and our little homestead grew to five acres. That was in the mid 1980’s. Katy learned how to make crosses about 1990, and the daylily population began to grow. Now there are five separate gardens populated with registered cultivars and seedlings, including a “nursery” for new crosses waiting to show their stuff.

Katy is an accomplished artist, working primarily in oil. You may want to take time to see some her work when you visit, or take a look at her website, Fine Art by Katy. She applies that artistic eye for color and form to her hybridizing. Ken is ‘retired’, allowing him the opportunity to again ‘work the soil and tend the crops’.

The flowers in our gardens usually begin blooming in late April, with peak bloom season in May and June. We try to maintain regular hours for our visitors during peak bloom, but sometimes other commitments make it impossible for us to be here. We ask that you call before make the drive, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your schedule. We have included maps to our location, but feel free to call for directions. We’re a little off the beaten track, but not difficult to find.

The pictures on this website are taken in our gardens, and are as true to color as the combination of camera, computer screen and the limited skills of the photographer allow. The only digital manipulation is cropping and sizing to fit the pages. We consider it a compliment if you wish to use our pictures, and ask only that you give us credit.

Our garden is licensed and inspected annually by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Like many, we have an ongoing program for the control of daylily rust. Plants are sprayed regularly with both contact and systemic fungicides.

We’re looking forward to your visit. We’ll have the lawn chairs set up under a big, shady tree so you can relax and enjoy the quiet country atmosphere.
